the Big Brother. We are part of it, and more, we are part of those people who are trying and mostly succeed to maintain its image. Suddenly, a few of us wake up and see what is really happening. We try to change but our efforts are futile against personal interests, hate, duplicitous behavior and most of all ignorance. Our group is struggling to show the world what's wrong, to undo the harm done but, as a living being, the Big Brother cannot be helped if the roots are damaged. 2007 Based on friendship and trust, a group of people from two not-so-distant countries, read Romania and Croatia, are trying to create the most advanced structure for representing students scientific community interests. Its name represents the fusion that need to be considered in research, that none of us can achieve great results without outside help. The name is PHYMACS. PHYMACS comes from Physics, Mathematics and Computer Science International Students' Network and is intended to be the next level in global cooperation between the young members of the scientific society. Being based on information technology and acting at a global level, PHYMACS ISN should be able to accomplish tasks that until now were difficult to approach (from both financial and human resource point of view). Phymacs will be organized in two different parts. The first one, an internet portal that gathers some of the most science students used services and applications spiced up with some unique feature, all under the same umbrella - the PHYMACS portal. The on-line PHYMACS will be backed up by a linkage NGO, the PHYMACS ISN, designated as the only entity which will ensure continuity and development of PHYMACS initial framework and will support the members in achieving the commonly agreed goals. Phymacs will organize each year an International Conference oriented towards encouraging the creation of interdisciplinary research committees with students coming all over the world, event which will be named PHYMACS WORLD CONFERENCE. We can become ONE! For the PHYMACS to fulfill it's purpose, we need to get started and for that we need your help. The help needed is in equipment, to start developing the software pieces needed (we have more than 50%, but the linkage and testing cannot be made on our actual equipment). The initial configuration we need has been thought as an heterogeneous cluster, made up from 3 nodes as follows: Node A: (based on a Compaq EVO D300 from 2002, which is now unavailable) CPU: Intel P4 1.8 Ghz (original configuration) RAM: 1 Gb Kingston PC2100 DDR (original 128 Mb Compaq PC2100 DDR) HDD: 3x250 Gb Western Digital Caviar SE IDE100 (original 40Gb Western Digital IDE100) Node B,C: (new computers) CPU: Intel Core 2 Duo E6400 RAM: 2x1Gb Kingston HyperX MB: ABIT AW9D MAX HDD: 2x250 Gb Western Digital Caviar SE SATA POWER: ANTEC EA-430EC If you can help, please contact me at bdobrica[at]gmail.com. Thanks. [25/02/07] new meeting.. by bogdanel[at]phymacs
Hello folks!
Long time no see. But i've came back. With fresh powers. The first point of today's agenda (and probably the last one) covers the Executive Committee Meeting of the International Association of Physics Students, association that I've join through ASUB in November 2005 (my first meeting). Well, there are a bunch of people there, interested in physics and related sciences who want to change the world. If it's working or not it's not my job to tell, but at least we're trying. This extended meeting (I'm saying this because I'm a member of the Central Office, which is 75% Croatian) is important to me as I want to launch as soon as possible the PhyMaCS platform (I will post a few words on this but later), which I hope, will bring students to new levels of sharing knowledge, creating research committees and follow their passions. The University of Bucharest through Prof. Dana Marinescu (vice-rector with student issues) and Prof. Ioan Panzaru (rector) helped me to be able to participate to this meeting, as the University of Bucharest (http://www.unibuc.ro) will be the main supporter of the project. Thank you very much! The University of Bucharest is the only University with members in IAPS who does this1. Also, I would like to thank to the National Agency for Governmental Strategies (http://www.publicinfo.ro) which provided me with the most beautiful Romanian photo albums, which I will give to every member of the IAPS-EC. This is part of my Promoting Romania's Image personal program. So, see you again! Soon. 1 just to let you know that the UCL (University College London) is actually renting their conference rooms to IAPS's UK NC Committee (and the amount is not to be overlooked). And this example is not singular. Remember that IAPS has national representativity in 14 countries (including United States) and local representativity in 10 other countries |
